Breast Reduction
Women with large breasts often complain of physical symptoms as a consequence of the weight of the breast. These include upper back pain, discomfort in the neck, shoulder pain due to the pressure from the brassiere straps, and often, rashes that occur in the fold beneath the breasts. Women find that it is difficult to find clothing which fits properly. Athletic activities are limited due to the difficulty in controlling the motion of the redundant breast tissue.
Women undergoing breast reduction are, in general, very pleased with the results, as it is effective not only in improving their body image, but relieves physical symptoms that can be more than bothersome. Many women often take this boost in their physical appearance as a stimulus to carry out more aggressive programs of weight loss and exercise. For some patients, reduction mammoplasty is covered by medical health insurance. If, however, insurance coverage is denied or not available, then this procedure can be accomplished in our operating center as an outpatient. Younger women will be pleased to know that in the majority of cases breast-feeding after the surgery is possible.
